Day 1

AIRPORT ( KATUNAYAKE)/ HIKKADUWA

Approx 150 km & travel time approx 4 hours excluding sightseeing

Met on arrival at the airport arrival hall & transfer to the Hikkaduwa hotel via the Colombo / Galle express way.

Evening do a city tour of Galle which includes Dutch Fort, Museum. Overnight in Hikkaduwa.

Galle-was once the chief port of Sri Lanka. It is still well known for hand-made lace.You can also visit the Galle Fort (spanning 90 acres), which was originally built by the Portuguese and later Extended by the Dutch in 1663. This is also a World Heritage Site.

 

Day 2

HIKKADUWA

Breakfast at the hotel.

Do water sports in Hikkaduwa. Surfing (Seasonal)

Evening visit a Turtle hatchery farm in Hikkaduwa Overnight in Hikkaduwa.

Surfing - One of  the most popular area for surfing is Hikkaduwa on the south-west coast , though surfing can be enjoyed at many places along the west to south coasts. Weligama Bay in the south has good surfing waves and a sandy bottom.

Turtle Hatchery -is a conservation project to survive the Turtles because it’s an endangered species. Sri Lanka is a safe haven for Turtles. Out of eight remaining Turtle species five of them lay their eggs on Sri Lankan coast during the breeding season (December to February).

 

Day 3

HIKKADUWA

Breakfast at the hotel.

Do water sports in Hikkaduwa.

Diving.

Snorkeling.

Overnight in Hikkaduwa. 

Snorkeling-The Indian Ocean around Sri Lanka is inhabited by the likes of groupers, barracuda, manta rays and sea turtles as well as a host of tropical reef fish – creating a colourful kaleidoscope in the clear waters of the calm season. Snorkeling gear and glass bottom boats are available for viewing the reefs at Bentota/Beruwela and Hikkaduwa where you can see shoals of tropical fish, though the coral is damaged. The south coast is good for snorkeling and the hotels usually have snorkels and masks available. The dive centres at Unuwatuna and Mirissa also have snorkeling equipment for hire.

Diving-Sri Lanka is not known for its diving sites although there are opportunities for diving off shore. Diving centres with PADI qualified instructors can be found in Bentota, Hikkaduwa (coral reef and marine life), and Unuwatuna/Mirissa in the south.

 

Day 4

HIKKADUWA/BENTOTA

Approx 40 km & travel time approx 45 minutes excluding sightseeing

After breakfast proceed to Bentota & rest at the hotel. Evening do a Madu River boat safari in Balapitiya.

Thereafter return to the hotel.

Overnight in Bentota.

Madu River- which is one of the most beautiful wetlands of Sri Lanka. The importance of this estuarine lagoon was recognized with the declaration as a RAMSAR in March 2004. With this declaration, Madu River has been given the status as a wetland of international importance.

Madu River is very rich in natural stands of Mangroves. These Mangroves are able to grove in salty water due to development of special adaptation trees. There are total 14 different species of Mangroves to be found. It is also a wonderful place to observe animals, especially birds. The best time to do so just after sunrise or just before the sunset.

 

Day 5

BENTOTA

Breakfast at the hotel.

Overnight in Bentota

 

Motorised Water Sports-Water-skiing, jet-skiing and banana boat rides are available at Bentota in a sheltered lagoon/estuary where the river meets the sea, and at Hikkaduwa.

Windsurfing is seasonal .December to February is considered  as the peak season. All other sports activities  can be done throughout the year. Rainy season  is during the mid year.
